Who remembers...............
Flashing the field?
Pole shoes and residual magnetism? Three unit control panel F- and F+ All terms from the older generators.

Wasn't that B to F+ to polarize?

Charging...........
There were these three problems to deal with....
Voltage, current and the possibility of a generator acting like a motor by the current running in reverse. The original voltage regulators had three different coils and little sets of contact points to deal with the problem. The old generators were self excited by residual magnetism in the pole shoes. The new charging systems are battery excited.

All the time, when you put a generator on line, you flash the field, when you turn on the exciter. Get unit up to 3600 RPM, flash the field, sync, and hit the line.

Remember heck.
I gotta try not to forget with my XLCH. Last time I checked the brushes, they looked pretty good.

RCCR- is the third unit in the three unit control panel. You are correct sir...I thought I did.
Keeps the generator from thinking its a motor
