Compared to prior years you won't see as much difference because the 06 heads start off flowing better.

As for this thread, if you getting them ported, I don't think it matters. Just send yours in.

Dewey is still porting his own heads. I had mine done elsewhere as he was too busy. I also didn't listen to Dewey when he told me he wouldn't bother to port 06 heads since the gains weren't worth the cost. On a stock or almost stock engine I would agree now. On mine it was worth doing just because I have done quite a bit to the engine and was looking for more power without stroking it. The main improvement I saw was in low end torque.

I wasn't talking about Dewey. He has a damn good rep. I do find it hard to beleive that a stock EPA compliant head will be in the same ball park as head ported by a shop.


People claim on 07s port and cams will cool the bike quite a bit. Though who knows how much and what the contributing factor is. Cams?

Just telling you what Dewey told me. I do know my bike Dynoed 96hp/101tq with stock 06 heads on a 95"/37g combo with a Rinehart 2into1. Yes, it's stronger now with the ported heads but not dramatically. Mainly better low end torque and smoother running from matching chamber volume and a bump to the compression.

I have a friend that has an 04 Roaking and wants to know if there is an advantage between the two. "Twin Cam" I plan on having one or the other ported.

Probably somebody smarter already replied (I'm skimming), but if you're gonna get 'em ported '06 heads just make things easier on the porter, and you have those crap seals and valves (IMHO) to deal with on '05 and later heads.
If I re-do mine, I'll start w/ '04 heads.

That was my understanding, maybe only part of the year too. I am speaking from my bowels though. Not sure.

As always, this is "IIRC", but I believe that while the seals were identified as bad in '05, they continued using them into the '06 model year.
All y'all can do whatever you want, but for my $$$$, I'll start with '04 heads.

Myself, speaking from my bowels, I would just send mine to a good reputable shop during the winter. Regardless of year. But like I said I am speaking stright from my bowels, lacking any scientic proof.
