What Brand Laptop
Is the go to these days?
I looked at Apple until I priced out 15". Ouch. So I guess we'll stay with a windows unit.

We have 2 Dells, an HP, and an Acer.
No complaints. I will probably go with another Dell when mine is due.

I've been using HP for many years.

The 'puter gurus around here (Spokane Washington) say to stay away from Dell and HP, HP because of compatibility issues and power supplies going bad, and the Dells for the same issues.
I have an ASUS and its pretty much the shiznit, every Toshiba I have had was excellent, and Panasonic Toughbooks are just plain killer. I have a Toughbook that can't run anything later than Windows 2000, because of its age, and it still works perfectly.

Any brand name should do.
I just purchased a Fujitsu with 8G ram and 1TB HD for $600. It seems like a great machine, however I am really hating Windows 8 right now

Have had Dell and 2 HPs. For the most part, the HPs have been reasonably reliable. The thing I don't like is all of the HP add-on crap. Kind of like all the all the crap the cellular providers stuff your phone with that you don't want, don't use and can't get rid of.

Toshiba and Acer here. One of my Toshibas has either Win95 or 98 on it. No complaints.

I have a Toshiba Satellite. .. it came with Windows 8 which threw me a curve but I've adapted. I'm very happy with mine.

Consumer grade computers are crap. Anything you buy at a big box store or from the "home" section of a website (Dell) are built so poorly they typically only put either a 90 day or maybe a 1 year warranty on it. Anything past that, you are lucky it keeps running. Buy an enterprise grade computer, laptop or desktop, if you want them to last 3+ years like clockwork. Warranty covers them for that long, warranty service is much better, every single one that I have purchased like this over the past 20 years of being in the business have lasted 5+ years and usually just get shelved due to being slower than what I replaced it with and that is normally just due to the advancements in technology, not a deterioration of the unit itself.
