Ness Big CHEAP Sucker?
Has anyone heard of this yet? Thoughts?
There is a reputable vendor on eBay selling a kit they call the Arlen Ness Big Cheap Sucker. Sounds like it doesn't use a back plate Still has the K&N philter and accepts the stock cover. In the past I have used the SE stage I kit. It seems to be a very solid unit. I've been considering the Ness setup, and the CHEAP big sucker if it does the same job as reliable at a lower cost may be the way to go. This is a lot of crap to go through just to replace the phootball with a round cover.

I've had both, my softail had the Ness big sucker and the SG has the SE. Of the two the Ness is far and away better, the backing plate and the breather design is much better. However I've heard that the one made by the guy who makes the improved rocker boxes(sorry the memory is going and I can't remember names for shit) is better yet.

I've had the Ness BS on both my TCs. I've been very happy with it. Got both from Eastern Performance, before the Q-dog incident.
Don't know anything about the cheap kit.

i did the poor mans SE kit m'self....
all parts were bought separately chrome SE backing plate K&N filter and an air cleaner cover insert like this one.. it covers the end of the K&N perfectly, but leaves you with a completly open AF element

The J&P catalog has more info on the Big CHEAP Sucker. Apparently the back plate is built into the philter, and it reuses the stock breather apparatus. Also it only accepts the stock "phootball" cover, soooooo that's out.

Phreak, look on fleabay, several e-tailers sell the real Ness filter set up for hundred bucks or less and it's definitely better than the SE. I haven't looked for the Doherty yet but that's my choice when I replace my SE setup next month(found out that the guy I bought my bike from let the bolts holding the backing plate to the TB get loose and everything is screwed from the vibrations).
