New Mexico.. 43 sign is about an hour south of Roswell.
California. 43 is in the valley south of Modesto. Hot and Dry even though it's surrounded by crops.
Oregon. 43 sign is right of Interstate 5, south side of Portland. Lake Oswego I think.
Montana. 43 sign is in a beautiful little valley south of Butte.
Idaho. West over the mountain ridge from Jackson on the way towards Salt Lake City along highway 20.
Utah 43. Northwest corner near Manila and the Flaming Gorge Recreation Area. Continue on highway 44 through the FGRA. Watch for white F150's with door decal, DNR. They write lots of tickets.

Highway 191 on East side of Arizona, parallels New Mexico border.


July/August/September is the Monsoon season in the desert SW. Keep your eyes on the horizon so you can detour as necessary. You will be in places where you won't see anyone for upwards of an hour, maybe more. Cell coverage is spotty. Fuel can be 80 miles or more between stops. Road construction is everywhere, and they love fresh tar and gravel repairs everywhere out there. We found ourselves on some of these repair areas for 20 or more miles. Detour if you can. If someone local tells you not to go a certain way, LISTEN TO THEM... Plan somewhere to get your tires changed as you'll likely need them at some point. 70 mph speed limits are everywhere, even on 2 lane roads. Reservations may be nice, but they don't allow you the flexibility to detour for bad weather. We never had a single reservation on our 30 day trip, and we were picky where we stayed. It's not like the Midwest and east coast.. Don't have to worry about softball tournaments taking every room in towns, but high tourist destinations do book quickly, like North rim of Grand Canyon, and the occasional car convention in some little towns.

Oh, and animals out there are BIG... Careful riding after dark.

Kansas 7 crosses I-70 just west of I-435 in western Kansas City. Kansas 43 ends at I-70 approx 140 miles west of there.

Thanks for all the well wishes and recommendations. I will be taking in all the 43's and 7's I can whilst I'm out and about. I will at least start a travel thread here on the forum, to share stories and pictures/videos. I'm not savvy enough for real time road blogs. I will do the Peugeot Sound and Hwy1 as well. I am more of a paper map kinda guy, but am thinking about a Garmin as well. Not to fond of the I fone map. I did get miss directed a couple/few times on my way over to MV.
