Why do you ride?

The first time I rode in the evening, and felt the quick change in temperature between the top of the hill, and the little dip where the creek ran, I was hooked on being in the wind. Every Spring, I get a strong reminder when I smell the Honeysuckle as I ride through the countryside. As the years have passed, I've even learned to appreciate how good a cup of hot coffee or cocoa feels and tastes after a chilly ride in the winter. Who can deny the pleasure of taking a break from a hot ride, by parking on the grass under a tree beside a lake, and listening to the bike tick as it cools during it's rest. And of course, what can beat being surrounded by an explosion of color as you cruise the Blueridge Parkway in the fall.

When you ride, it's all good.

The dead skunks somehow smell, you know, skunkier when you are on a bike. Kinda makes you puke just a little as you motor on by.

I like chasen down the moon on an empty back road...

yes the smells of the country side....a full moon in early spring...seeing a flock of geese fly through the moon light...

the sweet smell of evening dew forming...

it clears the head...it fills the senses...it refuels the soul...

those are nice words that you have written

It doesn't matter how bad things are, or how awful my day was, I can hop on Tawanda and as soon as I get on open road something inside relaxes and I can finally breathe. . .

But only for a second. The smell doesn't stay with you like it does when it's trapped inside a car.

Truer and more sensitive words have never been written. Based on some of the other posts it looks like I have some searching to do for my softer side.

I find that riding is the only way to completely clear my head of whatever stress and everyday bs is in there.
After a ride...I feel completely at ease with the world.

I just always have.
Rode with my Dad on his bikes, bummed whatever mini-bike time I could get from kids who had 'em, got my Sears 175 when I was 13, and it's just always been there.

I started off on dirt bikes, but it was much the same as you. Hot summer day when I got my Rupp minibike with a 3 1/2 hp Techumsa engine. I still remember smelling the exhaust and dirt, fields, and creeks as I rode. It hooked me. We still stop to "smell the roses" or as I put it these days...absorb the atmosphere.

Nothing like riding...

Yosamite Sam has failed to amuse us
That's why I want two bikes to get the experience in two different ways. I have noticed each bike gives you a different feeling of the road you are on. One bike is for highway and the other is for shorter hops.

It is the smells (having grown up in the country, one of my favorites is that of a "naturally" fertilized field)

And the sites (not just the colors but I like looking ahead or in my mirrors and seeing the friend/friends I'm sharing the wind and road with).

And the stories it provides for sharing with others who will understand.
