Helmet lock removal

I'm putting lower fairings on the Roadking. The dealer put the helmet lock option on the crash bar when I bought it. It has those antitheft screws so I can't remove it with a regular screwdriver. Any advise how to get the damn thing off?

Take your time with a screw driver and maybe some vise-grips. If you can get the screw to move at all, your home.
I had to tap on the screw head with a chisel to get the screw to start backing out. I hope they didn't put lock-tite on the screws.

Is that like a tamper proof Torx fastener? I ask because I have several extra of those laying in my toolbox and might have the correct one to send you.

No sir, they are screws that only turn 0ne way with a screw-driver. Half a slot, so to speak.

get a reverse drill bit and get started with a drill motor in reverse. This will usually do it, if not use a tiny easyout in the drill at low speed or with a small ratchet

While not endorsed by Billy Mays or Sham-WoW Vince, <this> might work.

Otherwise, agree that the only way would be to use either a small chisel or sharp awl to gently start the screws in the reverse direction and then grab with pliers or vise-grips.

Thanks guys. I'll give this stuff a try and let you know how it works. I think I have a set of Craftsmen stripped screw removers somewhere. I'll try that too.

To clarify, if you've ever sat in the stall wondering why you ate all that cheese the night before and in your boredom admired the screws used to hold the stalls together, you'll know the type of screws I'm talking about.

You know, if a guy had an old screwdriver around, and was handy with a file...I bet he might be able to fake one of these. Looks like a tiny spanner head to me.

Use a Sawzall, take the whole bar off, then re-weld it.

$37 for one screwdriver? Maybe the sawzall and new crashbar are a better idea!

I'm not even sure that $37 screwdriver is the right one. Believe what you have is the "slotted" screw head that has the reverse side of the head beveled. That driver is for the flat headed screw with two small holes in it.

If you aren't worried about saving the screws, I'd dremel grind the heads off the screws. That'll save your crash bar. If you arent worried about saving the helmet lock, then you don't have to worry about scratching it......
