Russ, if you saw smoke, then something was either loose, or it was overheated by what could be low voltage. Look at the wiring to and from all connections, and grounds, and smell the components with your nose (doh!)...your nose will tell you if something was overheated...or burned. I have looked around for different batteries, but my heritage has reversed terminals from normal. I have become lazy and just use H-D batteries. They last a long time and give me good service. I have used an Interstate battery before in my Heritage, but they all seem to cost as much as an H-D and H-D is open on Saturday for me to buy it. I plan on getting an H-D for the Electraglide. It is almost 6 years old and I no longer trust it.
