Oil filter removal
Hey y'all. I'm going to be adding an oil cooler to the bike, and was wondering....Can I take the filter off, install the cooler, and reinstall the filter, or will that end up draining the entire oil bag?

ditto...
simple green is your friend... I am editing this because I don't know where your oil tank is in relation to the filter, my bikes its lower so gravity will have no effect

Softail, so the oil bag is higher than the filter.

Try it and see.
Use kitty litter, it's cheaper than oil dry.

You should be fine. I've seen it done before. That or wait until you need to change the oil again and do the cooler. Are you seeing high temps in this weather?

Russ, you won't drain the oil bag when you remove the filter.

I'll give it a go. I figure I'll put it on the lift to straighten it out some. Hopefully that'll keep more oil in it.
Yeah Frank the temps have been up a bit, even with the weather. Between the higher compression and the newness, I figure it's running a little hotter. I got an adapter with a thermostat, so we'll see how it works. Thanks guys.

New build can always use an oil change. Your already getting your fingers dirty. Drain that sucker and install cooler and FRESH oil.

I got impatient and did the oil change earlier in the week.
