You all crack me up. Ask a reasonable question and get David Feherty. So much for this theology forum. I think I'll go pray about it. He'll know!

Well, those in Heaven would need to breathe... I'm hoping to make it there... and that ALL of you will be too, we can find out together.

Ironman,

Could be they're just in our folklore and depictions of them. I have to think angels can get around and in general do things we cannot understand. Ditto re an atmosphere.

Not being doiofish, but when you get there, all will be clear. For now - does it matter?

There's probably wisdom in that!

I mean, you did ask a bunch of Doofs (yeah, and the others too...)!!!

Seriously Ironman, I'm not intentionally belittling your question either. I've got 2 degrees in this stuff and that contributes heavily to my tendency to be a bit playful with theology. Of course, actually having degrees in this field automatically disqualifies my opinions among many of the faithful any way -- so it's probly best to take anything you get from me with a shaker of salt (and some tequila, and some lime juice...).

The truth is nobody can just say "I don't know."

Personally, I think the wings are a human interpretation most likely based on biblical imagery intended, like the parables, to make difficult concepts easier to fathom.

Some Bible passages picture angels with wings (Isaiah 6:2,6). Other verses talk about angels flying, and we assume that the wings would be useful for that flight (Daniel 9:21). However, I suspect that angels can move around without having to depend on wings. Most references to angels in the Bible say nothing about wings, and in passages like Genesis 18-19, it is certain that no wings were visible.

I don't think Angels need wings, I think we want them to have wings, for me that makes them heavenly. My 2 cents.

I don't think they have wings, but...

I Corinthians 6:3. "Don't you know that we shall judge the angels?" Paul writing to the Corinthian believers.

Cherubim and Seraphim are described as having wings, but then cherubs are also described as man-lion-ox-eagle. I don't think you can read form into function here, but I really don't have an answer to your question.

I was given one locally, and was in the first crash ever with this bike, and my first since about 1984, within a month or so, so I guess I'd say the jury's still out on that one for me.

but your here after the crash....

even after 12 years of time in catholic schools....I am no theologist...nor do I play one on tv....

But...as a wise Christian Brother told me when I had many doubts in high school about life and the reason for believing in the Lord....

that we make heaven, angels and God what we percieve it to be in our minds....just as we percieve what is good and bad in our physical live's on earth. A man does not know he is missing anything he has no knowledge of....yet he is percieved by others to be lacking, deprived or poor. So, if you follow that train of thought...an angel is what ever you percieve it to be...I have memories of a painting from my boyhood bedroom of two children crossing a rope bridge and an angel following behind them....a white billowy angel with wings....so that is how I percieve it...but if you never had thoughts of an angel with wings...you would percieve it as not having wings....

I think that over the years "angels" or what ever you may want to call it....have watched over me countless times....wether walking away from a crash...or deciding not to do something so outrageously stuppid...someone...God...his angels .... helped me out...
