I do not adjust when changing tires or brakes. I only remove axle.

I have heard a rule of thumb is, you want to be able to to twist the belt, to verticle. Can't vouch for this but have heard it a few times.

I scanned it, then converted it to pdf... I use a Mac and it is a standard print option.

Yep, my '06 touring manual says the same thing. Both times I did mine I did it on the ground with no weight on it though. Reading these posts makes me worry i might have it set to tight though... have heard no belt whine on decel though.

Did you put that part of you manual on PDF or do you have the whole manual on PDF? Where did you get it if you have the whole thing on PFD?

If you adjust it with no weight on the bike, you probably have it too tight. If ya hot rod it a lot, it could snap. If it's too loose, you round the teeth. THe Harley tool is relatively inexpensive - I want to say $20-ish.

The difference with me on and me off averaged about 1/16th" from 3/8" with me off to 5/16" with my weight added(260 lbs.)This is of course according to my grandaughter's father.(Who was probably stoned.Fu(ken idiot.)I'll report again when I can get help from someone I feel is a little more competent.

Woah!Where did that cme from?

I just adjusted my belt. Manual says 10 pounds..1/4 to 5/16 with the weight of the rider...blah blah blah.

What if your riding 2 up, do you have to re adjust the belt??

Then re-adjust it when your riding solo.

My thoughts are "screw the manual on this one" I adjusted it so it felt right. Not too tight, not too loose.

There ya have it.
