News from my friend, Mosaic, in Oz:
Yasi expected to hit around midnight, somewhere between cairns and Inisfail. It is 600km wide. Winds betweens 285 to 300km hr. I have a son, and 2 little grandbabes in Townsville, which is outside the actual impact zone, but within the the tear thing to pieces winds. here is the map of of the area. My son has a safe room below the house with everything there ready - beds, lamp, food/water etc. But it is still a worry. ~Mosaic

I barely slept last night, i imagime most Aussies would have been terrified of the impending doom. I had the tv in my bedroom going all night.
So far so good. Yes there has been major destruction but no loss of human life reported thus far.

Looks like the eye of the cyclone hasn't quite made landfall yet. The most intense winds are closest to the eye wall. Once the eye makes landfall, it will move faster and the storm will become less powerful the more land it covers. With that storm of that diameter, it'll take a while to pass, though.

It made landfall early this morning Daryl(our time) It hit a few coastal cities as a Cat 5 but eased to a cat 3. The worst is over...'cept for some possible flooding.
