In this snowstorm on the way home from work (3.5 hour drive instead of the usual 1) I should apologize...

...to the guy who had his F-150 4x4 stopped in the eastbound lane of Rt. 610 where Aquia Rd 'Ts' to head south.

You were being a good Samaritan digging out the eye-candy's car which was blocking the westbound lane (which already had 5 - 6 cars waiting).

If I would have come to a stop, I would have been stuck there since the snow plows had not yet plowed / sanded that back road AND I have yet to install LSD into the rear axle of my 2-wheel drive truck.

By the grace of GOD I deftly maneuvered my truck at 5 mph between eye-candy's car, your truck and pass the cars watiing to go westbound. I was fortunate, and do thank GOD for it.

If you would have parked on the corner of Aquina Rd and 610, your truck would have not been blocking the eastbound lane which created an additional hazard. Having your emergency flashers on would have been nice too.

Yes, I do understand why you yelled at me that I am a stupid, crazy f'in asshole.

I have installed and used the Lock-rights; Good product, I recommend. Be aware, though that driving a locker equipped vehicle in the slick stuff does have it's pitfalls, you may have to learn to adjust yer driving style somewhat.

I would be curious to know the 'pitfalls'. I drove both rear & front 2-wheel drive, & 4x4 vehicles in wild weather of Colorado for ~20+ years before moving here to Virginia 10 years ago and thatnkfully haven lost the skills.
Also, how much of a PITA is it to install the LockRight? I'm under the impression that it is not a locker box but an LSD.

Yep 43 miles at 20 MPH takes a bit of time to cover and there is the stops to clear the snow off the headlights so you can see...

The pitfalls are minor indeed and related to locker vs. LSDs. The Loc-Right is indeed a locker not a limited-slip. It works like a pair of ratchets rather than clutches.
Note here that the limited slip (use the GM PosiTraction as example) has bevel gears and side gears to transfer the power to the axles. The clutches don't transfer power, they merely limit the amount of difference between the axle's speeds. The transfer of power in a locker is slightly different. The locker does not have bevel gears or side gears (you toss the spiders out during install) but uses the installed locker mechanism to drive the axles. In a low-speed turn (say a typical intersection and slick conditions) a limited slip (Posi) will apply SOME torque to BOTH axles proportionally and if one starts slipping, it will tighten up the cluthes to limit the differential action so that 100% of the torque doesn't go to the slipping side and the tire with traction still gets 20~30%. This happens silently and smoothly and usually un-noticed.
A locker is a little less refined. A locker acts like a pair of linked ratchets; the linkage means that ALL of the torque applied will ALWAYS go to the slower-turning axle. Either axle is free to turn faster(such as when turning) than the diff carrier, but never slower. What that means is that when you turn, ALL torque is being applied only to the inside wheel. The driving style difference is related to this as you'll find the best way around a tight turn is actually to 'coast' around the turn, applying throttle before and after but not while in the turn. The LSD actually has the advantage here as it will send some power to both wheels while they are turning different speeds and a locker can't do that; it can only pull both wheels when they are turning the SAME speed. So in the same slow turn the locker is ONLY driving the inside wheel until that wheel slips enough to catch up to the speed of the outside wheel....THEN it will power both. You may find that it seems to slip the inside wheel at every turn. The locker also makes clicking noises. After all that, the locker DOES have distinct advantages as well; it can apply 100% of the torque to the side with traction which a Posi cannot do, ever. For rock crawling, mud bogging, sand drags etc the locker would kick ass over Posi. (No, we're not discussing spools here...) For real world winter/wet driving, the locker is best for straight-line acceleration but a limited-slip such as a PosiTraction or a Torsen or various viscous-types would have the overall drivability advantage.

I apologize for givin' ya the Official Long Winded version, you prolly didn't expect that. The Lock right WILL do what you need and it is easy to install. It does operate a little differently than you might expect but it IS a reliable unit and it DOES make your pickup 'fulltime 2wd' which is a major plus compared to stock. I didn't mean to steer you away from it. Just thought you should know that there are small trade-offs for the gain, as always seems to be the case, right?

The Lock right works 100% is cheap and easy but can be ill-mannered.

Posi or other LSD is quiet, well mannered works 80~90% and is expensive

Torsen (Eaton True Trac) is awesome but very expensive.

There are "switchable" locking diffs also such as the Eaton E-Loc and the ARB AirLocker.

TMI, I know, but its too late now!

Is my s10 zr2 limited slip? I have noticed sometimes in 4wd that one side doesn't seem to be spinning when I am trying to plow over a big giant pile of snow instead of shoveling it out of my way?

It would have been an extra option..if you bought it brand new, it would state on the sticker if you had it.
