Where do I start?
Okay, in the off season I put on new bars, ran the control wiring through them, replaced the clutch, throttle and front brake cables. I also took the tins off for new paint and reinstalled them. I put in new plugs too.
Of course, it doesn't run now that I put it all back together. I put gas in it today and the LED fuel gauge is working fine. All control switches on the left: hi beam, turn signal, horn all work fine. head light, tail light, fine. Passing lamps nothing. The right controls aren't quite right. The on/off seems fine. The start button turns the motor over but it doesn't fire. When I hit the right turn signal the check engine light comes on and I hear a buzz by the ECM area. I don't know where to start. How do I know the EFI is getting fuel? Spark? Any ideas where to start?

The buzz by the ECMis probably your fuel pump pressurizing. As for your lights not working follow the votlage from the fuse to the lights.
Starter turns, so thats good, now you need fuel and spark. Your saying the check engine light comes on when you hit the blinker? That seriously screwed up. The check engine light comes on when you turn key, and then turn off. If y9ou try start and it fails to start might come on, dunno. Does it do every time you hit the blinker? It might be unrelated. I would start by fixing ligths, could be a common ground. After that you can ground the threads of the sparkplug and see if it sparks. They also sell testers for this. Are the plugs wet? Start by fixing the known problems. We'll have to put some thought into this. |

In my experience wiring cars...it sounds like a classic ground connection that is missing or loose.

Hmmmmm...new bars, internal wiring, hmmmmmmmmm.
Quite possibly chaffed a wire in the bars, or pinched a wire or two in the controls on the bars (right side). I would start at the right side switches. |

Thanks guys! I'll start tracking down the problem with the right controls and see what that takes care of. Wait! I know! I didn't put air in the new tires!!!!!! Be right back!

Its gonna suck.
Need to get out electrical schematic and trace it down. 95% chance its related to the new wiring. |

I'm pretty sure Dzlfitr has it right. I pinched a rear turn signal wire once and got a check engine light on the deuce. Does it throw a code?

Thanks Amigos! You're a bright bunch. I went right to the right controls connector behind the headlight. I remembered I had taken both connectors apart to run the wires through the bars. Sure enough, a couple of the wires were pulling out of the connector, not all the way, just enough to prevent the connection. Snugged it all up and, SWEET!, it fires right up! While putting it all back together I noticed the passing lamps weren't working. I noticed one of the on/off switches was broken. I took the switch/cable assembly to the stealer. They didn't have any but the cost? $42!!!!!! Are you freakin' kidding me? I went to the hardware store and got an all weather switch for $1.99. All is good again. Put her all back together. I'll take some pics tomorrow and post the finished product. Gotta admit. She looks pretty good!

Cool Bud, glad it was such an easy fix.
And, that a bunch of Doofs and zINTs actually knew the answer...
