New Lid

Since Ireland, I've been seriously toying with the idea of a full-face helmet. My goal this winter is to commute on the bike at least one day a week, as long as the roads are clear (no snow or ice). I've got a 3/4 Scorpion EXO-200, which does a good job of keeping the cold blast off my face, but even with a balaclava, it still gets a bit chilly. On top of that, my commute in the morning is on the DC Beltway, which is for all intents and purposes an 8-lane death-strip surrounding the Capital, so the extra protection that a full-face offers may be a good thing.

My afternoon commute is east-to-west, so I get the setting sun shining in my eyes, in contrast to the pitch-black of the morning commute. I've yet to try on a full-face helmet that gives me room to get sunglasses on, and I'm not crazy about carrying two shields and switching them in the afternoon.

Enter the HJC FS-10. It's got a built-in retractable sun shield like a pilot's helmet. It's also not SNELL approved, which (in my opinion) is a good thing. And Motorcycle Superstore's got 'em for nearly half off.

I'll report back next week when it shows up.

Cool, Can't wait for a review. Been thinking of a FF for the cold weather protection as well.

Awaiting the review. Been thinking of one of their modulars for a while.

'Course, I'd love to be able to swing the FS-15 Carbon.

I really wanted to get the FS-15 Carbon, but between the $400 entry fee, and the lack of a sunshield, I had to pass. Truthfully though, the FS-10 is only a couple of ounces heavier, so I think I can live with that.

But the carbon fiber looks sooooooo cool.

Dana's got the IS-33, which is the 3/4 helmet with the sunshield, and she's really happy with it.

I've had a couple of HJC's and really like them. Which is good as they're the only helmet that fits my head comfortably.

I had the modular version of that helmet when I lived in the UK. It was a great helmet. I liked the modular since I could lift up the face when I was trolling through the little towns, yet it gave me excellent protection out on the highway. That sun shield is awesome, just hope it doesn't fog up on you.....Mine did it until I used some anti-fog stuff on it. The shield was fine, it came with a lining on it, but the sunscreen was a different story.....

Thats a cool lid.
I like HJC stuff, it fits me well.

It looks well thought out with the air dam over the nose, that should help with the fogging.

The best cure I've found for fogging is to open the shield one click, lets in just enough air without freezing your face..and for me anyway it make me feel like I'm not so confined if I can get some fresh air in my face.

Let us know how you like it.

SNELL M2010 is not bad, they've changed the standard drastically. Read this about earlier standards (M2000 and M2005):

http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/ge...iew/index.html

Basically, earlier SNELL standards called for a very stiff shell that transmitted more impact to the skull than DOT or the Euro standards.

Uesque pretty much answered it. The SNELL standard (in my opinion) made for a helmet that's too stiff in order to pass their tests. Both DOT and the Euro standards allow for a "softer" helmet that doesn't transmit as much shock to the head, and (theoretically) causes less brain trauma from striking a solid object.

I don't know if that's actually the case, but it sounds good to me and makes sense.
