I just did the upgrade this past winter. SE 203 cams, don't remember the SE piston model, hydraulic tensioner, SE spring. Clutch pull definitely tougher. The big differences I noticed;

lower grunt/rumble
instant low end torque vs the short delay getting on the freeway passing etc.
Power is ready when you want it. Like was said, cruise at 75 all day.

The HD 255 is close to the Andrews 50 or is it 55 whichever doesn't need valve clearance checking. Comes on late 2,500 or higher, I would have gone with a Andrews 26 but now have a Freedom Cycles Reno YB 12, or bagger cam as they like to call it.

Comes on early 1,800 -2,000 RPM and pulls like crazy.

I want to go to 95" someday also, but need money to do it.

hmmmm

I like Andrews cams...I have 26s in my 07 FLHTC (96 "). I just put 37s in my Dyna 88". With the 37s you will want more than stock compression if you keep it an 88. I got some 07 heads from Frank and had them cc'd and milled to 82cc....I also used a cometic 030 headgasket. It runs nice

The 26s give the bigger bike more low end and midrange power
The 37s give the lighter bike mid and top end umph....since its lighter I didnt think I needed low end. Works for me

Based on The Wizard's recommendation I went with the Andrews 37G (eliminating the tensioners and their wear issues) to accompany the 95". As Warren has suggested, the C/R was kept at 9.7/1 eliminating both octane issues and the need for compression releases. Head work also adds big time.

Mileage is somewhat dependent on how motivated my wrist gets. I can cruise all day at 65-70 and get 40 mpg. When that gets bumped to 75-80 the mpg drops to around 37.

I'm diggin' my 103 with 255 cams. It's not the meanest hog in town, but with the FatCat and Stage-One mod, it's pretty strong and reliable.

And so, it begins.

Careful around here, we like to help others spend their money.

95" and a Andrews 26 is a great combo. With the RH TD's, you'll probably want something with a little more low end grunt.

I didn't read the other stuff, so sorry if I rehash anything, but...
Properly tuned, it won't run any hotter, and probably cooler than it's running now if you are just using a "flash".
40 mpg is very doable.

BTW, the SE spring and the HD easy pull ramps = std pull effort for the bikes that didn't come w/ the easy pull.

Or you can get the Muller EZ clutch and make it even easier. Change the cam plate out to the hydraulic conversion type.

95 build....watch the compression ratio, I have a lower compression and dont need releases, Used Weisco flat tops, Andrews 26g cam (dont have to worry about cam tensioners now), lots of oomph at around 2400. Replaced my 2002 heads with 2006 heads but no work. I am very happy with the set up. I have a SERT and had it dyno'd. I am still working on gas mileage with some help with Smart Dave. Right now I am at 40ish mpg running 73 or below. Drops off after that. As for hotter....dont know. Have fun with it, you have lots of options.

I know from experience that a 10.5-1, 98 cubes and a bit more money than I spent was only 1.3-1.4 seconds faster in the quarter mile.
LOL only? A 1.0 to 1.5 seconds in the quarter is a BIG gain.

Just for me to gain .4 seconds in the quarter in my car was the equivalent of THOUSANDS of $. Granted the faster you go, the harder it is to gain.

That was my point. Don't spend thousands for the extra 1.5, you'll never really miss it unless the clock is running.

My 03 Glide still has the 88" Stage I stuff and 2into1 pipe. It runs well and gets about 40 mpg. My 2000 Road King has been upgraded to 95" and SE Heads and ??? cams.. I bought it that way.. It runs much better than the EG and gets better gas mileage, about 43. I'd go with the upgrade!

But then again, the RK only has 46K miles on it compared to the EG's 120K.

Gaining 1.3-1.4 second in the quarter is HUGE!!! I did that with my car once. Changed the rear gears from 3.30 to 5.13. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!

Besides, that extra quickness can get you out of trouble on the highway. the RK does a great 70-90mph roll!
