When did you first use the Internet?
For me, it was in the fall of 1986. I had a 300 baud modem.
back then, it was Usenet newsgroups and BBS's. Its interesting that Usenet is still around...

I was referring to the Internet in general,... even before the WWW when Unix machines, VAXs, and PDP11's ruled the net. I just thought it was funny that people used to discuss and argue with each other on usenet newsgroups and BBSs back then the same way we do here and now.
Nothing much has changed in that respect.

Yeah, and everybody else is still wrong and I'm still right.
My first computer (which I still own for some bizarre reason) was a Commodore 64. I seem to recall a speed demon 300 baud modem...... First real business computer was a 386SX, with a whopping 20 meg hard drive. The salesman actually tried to talk me into a 10 meg, saying there was NO WAY anyone would have any use for a bigger hard drive. |

Mid 90's. The first time I tried to log on with the dial up, I kept hearing that dial, static sound. I thought something was wrong so I kept cancelling the connection trying to figure out what the hell was wrong. Finally, it honked me of and I just let it go. To my great surprise, it connected. I sat up the whole night playing with it and saw the sun come up the next morning. I was hooked.

I got the Tandy 1000 when I was about 12. I have till this day my folks to thank fo r getting me into computers which is now what feeds my family. That was a ton of money to us as we were just po-folk. So I am extremely grateful for their sacrifice and forethought. Thanks Mom and Dad!!!!! Last edited by TJ Willy; 02-26-2008 at 05:03 PM. |

Mine looked like this: and it was screaming along with 256 K of memory and a 4.77 Mhz processor running on basic DOS with 8088 architecture. Year was 1984/5. I wrote my first computer program on that 1000EX that organized all our VCR tape recordings. You could either enter the number I put on the vhs tape (remember those little sheets of numbers that use to come with VHS tapes) at the prompt and it would list all the shows on the tape OR you could enter the name (if you happen to know EXACTLY what the name was.. haha) and it would give you the tape number. I obviously made millions.... "press 1 to enter VHS tape number or press 2 to enter recording name." I thought I was hot sh!t. Last edited by TJ Willy; 02-26-2008 at 05:18 PM. |
