Bolts

One thing that has always irritated me when looking at my bike, especially after washing it, is the crummy looking old factory bolts. So I took action. I ordered the grade 8 polished stainless steel engine bolt kit from Alloyboltz. Also got the front and rear brake rotor bolt kits. Total was around $130. I plan on swapping out this fall when I tear down for a bigger bore and cam swap. Should look a lot nicer.

Do you use S100? It's caustic and does a number on cadmium bolts if you don't get it rinsed off completely.

I don't. But who knows what the previous owner used?

Why not just use a HOT TOPPERS kit?

They come in Chrome and BLACK Chrome I believe and can be ordered to cover every bolt on the scoot.

Was just curious as to why you chocse to go one way over the other...

I did mull the Hot Toppers idea over for awhile. But with them you are just covering a problem and they are just friction fit. Also, I wanted to replace the brake rotor bolts, (they've been used several times) and going to the 12 pt. head in lieu of the Torx was appealing. When I was ordering the rotor bolts, the engine kit was added kind of as an after thought.

The engine kit was like $65 and the rotor kits were like $20 something per rotor. The rotors seem a little steep for 5 bolts ea., but the engine kit didn't strike me as too bad especially as compared to the Hot Toppers. Plus, I've been wrenchin' most of my life and am a little anal about mechanical stuff. Guilty as charged.

I bought a set of polished stainless bolts for the Dyna. Still have some to put on. Have to wait till i remove something for some of them to go on. I would like some for the brake mounting bolts though. It really spruces things up

I hat hot toppers for the first two years, but they were temporary at best. I finally got what I wanted and for a great price.
