O-Rings and Sealant
What are ur Guy's thoughts on putting 3M 800 in a THIN bead around the cylinder O-rings. The local stealership wrench assures me that is how he does his builds. I did notice a light weeping/stain on my oil return O-rings.
What say ye - Light coat of 20-50w and put her together or THIN bead of 3M-800 instead, I just don't want a issue down the road. Cheers, Dirk |

I have had mine apart three times. In every instance all I did was use a thin bead of 20-50 and made sure that the o-ring and the contact surfaces were super clean. That should be all you need to do.
But then again, I'm a plumber and I am real good at making things NOT leak. YMMV.

Got the lint free shop rags -found these Kimberly-Clark lint free WypAlls with some brake cleaner, should be good to go with just alittle 20-50W. I was a little leery on the sealant failing down the road......I think the deck is pretty clean, got a good torque wrench, chased the head bolt threads and give em a tiny drop of oil when I torque em down.

Every one says to put oil under the base of the head bolts when you torque them down

I always used 3M Yellow Super Weatherstrip Glue when rebuilding CAT engines. Never an oil leak.

No sealant on mine; 20-some K miles w/ no leaks.

I suppose a little Hylomar wouldn't hurt on the base rings, but as clean as your decks look, I don't think you'll have an issue..
