Long Way Round
So I downloaded Long Way Round with Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman where they do some ADV style riding on some BMW's around the world.
I'm not through with the series yet, but so far I'd recommend it to anyone with a love for 2 wheels and adventure. The side effect is that this documentary has me itching to plan a trip from coast to coast. Since I'm in Texas I'm starting in the middle and need t make a loop of sorts. Have any of my beloved Doofs or filthy stinkin zints done this? I'm curious about an average miles/day and how long to plan (with some fudge room for weather and unforeseen issues) to make such a trip. As a side note, this gave me a new found respect for BMW's off-road capable tourer. I "didn't get it" before, but now I do.

I've watched both and I think the first one is the best. I've not done anything like those trips though. Felix is a city bike.

Yes, the first one is definitely better.
It's an interesting travelogue for what it is. But it's tempered by the fact that Charley and Ewan had a phenomenal amount of money and support for this trip. For an interesting counterpoint, read Ted Simon's "Jupiter's Travels". He spent 4 years riding solo around the world. In 1973. On a Triumph Tiger.
