Tired of messin' with it.

Been chasing a buzzy, rpm-related vibration in the cop bike for almost two months now.

Originally thought the problem was with the primary chain, found a loose compensator nut, tore up stator rotor, repaired same, hoped for the best.

Vibration persists.

I've spent the better part of the last two weekends poking and prodding, tweaking and retweaking, and checking everything I can think of checking, all to no avail.......

Mrs. o has been quite understanding, but it's time to move on.

I'm tired of thinking about it and working on it. The bike's totally no fun to ride as she sits now.

There's no one around here who I trust to work on it, so the bike's going up to Hoban Bros. (home of Darkhorse Crankworks) for evaluation next Saturday. Hope it ain't the crank, but I fear that it is. If so, it ain't got far to go to get fixed.

I've talked to Erik at Hoban a few times the past few weeks. I feel at ease with my decision.

Just ride it till it blows up. Too much stress is not good.

I did and gleaned a few things...

Ate) Yer gonna lend me yer dirty Cadillac togs so I get a discount.

Twenty2) Mouse pee eats electrical connectors.

Pie squared) More displacement equals new oil cooler.

49/7) Fixin' Harley engines are 'pensive.

Bonus quarter) When do you take delivery of the bridge?

The rest I already knew.......

Seriously, tho.

The bike could have a different issue, and not a scissored crank. Could be tune. Could be something in the primary. Could be transmission input shaft. Could be something that I overlooked like twenty times.

The Hobans have a good rep. Good trouble shooters, too.

I'll learn more Saturday.

If she's gotta come apart, tho, she'll be in good hands.......

Now, I ain't gonna say she's gonna go 95, or larger. Just depends on what they find. And the cost of fixin' what's wrong with her.......

The following is the mis-statement of the year, at least in my world.......

Hey, at least I caught it before it totally self destructed itself!!!!!!!

Raise a PBR! Toast my somewhat, unconfirmed, good misfortune!

Erik from Hoban's called this morning, late. He rode the bike yesterday, like four miles. Knew what the problem was.

Cam end crankshaft run out is .012.

The motor will be disassembled either Friday or Monday. A plan will be formulated afterwards.

Sure glad you got some shop "near" enough that knows what they are doing.

And when I say "near" enough I am willing to go a state or two away if I can get it fixed without guess work, i.e.shop brainaics say trouble tree now says maybe new computer will fix the check engine light from coming on...

Yeah, I'm lucky. Hoban's is only 117 miles away, door to door.

And you know what, I don't mind spending a premium for top notch, quality work.

Peace of mind, in a lot of cases, is darned near priceless.......

Hopefully the motor will be tore down by Friday. I'd like to see my 'scattered motor' on Saturday.

You mean the 2K shake?

If so, mine got so bad that it seemed almost as if I was getting turbulence from the vibrating windshield at 2K rpm, at any highway speed, meaning it felt as if there was more wind coming from behind the windshield than around it.......

Make sense?

I'm just glad I now know the problem, and that it's gonna get fixed.

I talked to someone from Darkhorse at a graduation party recently, I think it was Erik. Ask him if he's married to my friend's sister. Anyway, the stuff he was telling me about crank tolerances was scary.
