Thanks for the good thoughts everyone!
Here's my "report" --
Junction 2008 Good Memories! Highlights: Thursday -- Your basic superslab run to get to Finalbags'. Good weather and managed to avoid the bad traffic hours around the cities. Arrived at Finalbags' place around 10pm. Received a warm welcome -- met Randy's family, kicked back and had a smoke in the Garagapalooza location. A good sleep in a good bed in a room that made my chirping Ultra sound quiet (will be chuckling about that a while.. dang low battery alarm smoke detectors). Complete with chocolates and chickie. Friday -- a good breakfast at Randy's and rode to Junction with Randy, Paul, and Steve. Yo Randy - Ultra's and sandtraps don't mix. Randy's new moniker should be "finder of sandtraps". Received the typically hearty Gazinta and Doof welcome from the crew already there along with a cold beer (or a few,,, or many,,). Was a great night. Saturday -- will be hard to top the relaxing good time on Saturday. Many fond memories: Kicking back on the Motorcycle Stop's porch enjoying the Texas countryside after riding the Twisted Sisters. Being initiated into the Cloudrider's. Wandering about in Doof typical style when everyone got split up. Putting along behind Jim or screaming along behind Lee and Little Lee it was all good. After a glorious day riding sitting outside reminiscing and relaxing with everyone ... just when it couldn't get any better it did. Parking lot BBQ for dinner and plenty of adult beverages consumed by all. Sunday -- Luckenbach Texas. What a great place. Then the worldest greatest Hamburger. Big Al was so right. The Bat Cave. Dang that's a lot of bats in one spot. Great riding everywhere. A laid back evening on the parking lot with limited drinking... we all had a long ride early the next morning to get home. Dampened spirits knowing it was ending but warm hearts from the great memories made. Monday -- (mini ride report) Junction TX to Omaha NE is a long haul made longer by a really poor route from Microsoft's mapping software. I finally stopped and bought a Texas map so I could re-route. It was all good though -- despite wet roads and plenty of rain I was able to experience a lot more of the fantastic Texas countryside riding the 2 lanes up to Wichita Falls TX on the Oklahoma border. Riding Texas in fog on wet roads .. in the DARK (pitch black country) took the sun quite a while to start breaking thru all the clouds .. deer everywhere .. dang rodents. Kept the speed subdued and had a safe ride. That type of ride ... I feel in my soul. You feel the spirit of a place alone on a remote road. Lost my shift peg somewhere in Texas and was thanking god I didn't leave my heel shifter in the garage so put that on. Even that was fun (after realizng I had the shifter in my saddlebag). Before the ride I was wondering why I was keeping it in there -- the front was good and tight and hadn't loosened so why was I carrying the extra weight? Atleast that's what I was wondering when I didn't shelve it. Stood there soaking in my last little piece of Texas after getting everything repacked and the shifter peg on. Managed to hit atleast one heavy downpour in each of the four states (Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska) and many steady rains in each state. With the fairyngs the steady rains didn't even get me wet -- the heavy downpour's sure did but they came in bursts and I was determined to get the ride done by a reasonable hour so opted to just ride straight thru them all and managed to mostly dry out before the next one soaked me again. Pulled out of the Sun Valley parking lot at 5:15am and was in my garage at 8:10pm. 950 miles (stupid mapping software - should have been 895) in 14:55 for a rate of travel of 63.7 mph. Basically rode it like an Ironbutt with fuel only stops (3-4 minute stops) after I got out of Texas and onto the superslabs. See y'all on April 3rd. (pics will follow... somewhere... soon as I can downsize them all)
