Neck bearings
How often do neck bearings have to be tightened? I had mine done a few thousand (but less than five I think) miles ago and they suddenly feel loose again. Normal? Possible problem? Thanks.

About every 20K or so. Who did yours? Why do you think they're loose? Need a little more info. How does it handle at speed? Any clunking going over bumps??

Tawanda has a custom springer front end. I started noticing some movement when making turns. The front end would shift. . .I think clunk is a pretty good way for the way it felt. I had to have mine replaced. That was at about 40k. They have to be replaced on springers more often I'm told, which is why they get greased every 5k when I have her serviced.

My manual says to grease at the 5k services (every 10 K) and adjust at the 10k services.

I never heard the clunk, I felt the clunk. When I started paying attention I could see the front end shift. It was mostly at low speeds, like when I was taking off from a stop and turning.

I put her up on the lift and see what I can figure out.

It just started feeling loose. Little wobbly when slowing to a stop. Feels less solid in curves. I do hear an occasional clunk, but it's when I grab the front brake at a slow speed. Like just rolling forward slightly and grab the front brake it clunks, but usually only once, early in the ride and won't do it again. Sounds like two metal edges that are slightly bound and then let go and slide past each other rather than a bottoming out noise. Hope that makes sense. I'm going to check my tire pressure too. I might have gotten it a little high.

Mine says grease 5 or 10, and service at 50k, which I am over due. Feels fine, but I am sure its one of those things that slowly degrades, and you don't notice it.

I think you may be right about that. . .I didn't notice it and then all of a sudden I did. . . my mechanic freaked when I told him I noticed it in Seminole and then rode it to Fort Worth to be checked. . .
