Ding in piston could be a pinched ring land = stuck ring (s)

May or may not have hit valves, but my kind of luck would have bent all four valves and stripped the guides from the heads.

what I mean if there is a divot in the top of the piston, is it a problem, aside from the other problems. Will it throw balance off, any more so then the carbon build up?

I would still double check around bike, with the slight hope, you are being paranoid. This gives the fear and despair more time to creep in.

Do you think a ding in the piston is a big deal? Balance issue? I suppose that far, just get another piston. Same thing, I don't know if I would worry about scratch in the head, its not moving. But valves and seals may need to be replace.

If cylinder is scuffed, then its time to make a decision. Can bore existing cylnders to 95" for around 150, $250 for pistons, need 1 anyways.

But now the fun, your this far....95" istelf will not create alot of power on its own, I am told. Now your talking cams atlest, and port job if you got the cash.
I'm definitely the optimist here, so the 95" upgrade would be rad. If I'm gonna have to take everything apart, I may as well drop some cash.

I got the telescoping magnet and didn't find anything yet. I'll try again later.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if that bit got sandwiched between the valve and piston... doesn't that bend a rod...?

Nope, but it it got sandwiched between the piston and the head in the squish zone, could be a yes.

Best case, dent in center of piston and head, worst case, bent rod.

If it got caught between the valve and seat, new valve and seat required.

Problem may be it is wedged into the soft aluminum of the head or piston and will not come out with a magnet.

Time to take it apart. Only way to be sure you did not fubar the top end or the motor.

Its got to be tempting to just start it. But you could never trust it. Even it was never in there, it would nag you, unless you found the bit 15 feet away under the tool cabinet, where it rolled to when you dropped it.

A top end rebuild, eh? My day just gets better and better!

I can only laugh at myself at this point...

I gotta disagree about starting it as-is. I'd resist that urge. Anything in there will only get worse.

You could well be into a nice, torquey 95" for a very reasonable sum. Big Boys has a lot of happy customers and very reasonable prices. Boring isn't a high-cost item - and someone's offered you pistons. I see a nice Andrews 54 or 26 - and one very happy camper when all is over and done! Good luck!
