A guy and his wife went down this week from a blowout. It was on a rear tire
that had been plugged. They are both going to be ok.

The great debate - You found a nail in your tire, and it's a fairly new tire. Dismount the tire and examine the point of entry. Smooth?....Then tube it. Rough, then patch it and tube it. If you patch the inside of the tire, you must scuff the area of the patch, and apply glue and patch as per directions. I've still seen where the patch has come loose at the next tire change. The tube is very durable, so my recommendation is to make sure the tire is smooth at the point of entry, and if smooth, forget the patch, and tube it. I have run a tire 11k on a tube, and never knew the difference. Plus, the tube held air better than a tubeless. I change my own tires, so the labor cost is something you might consider with the old tire and how many miles are left on it.
