Water heater ?
I got the water turned on yesterday and I have a question about the water heater. Shouldn't it automatically fill with water when the water is turned on? The cut off valves appear to be open. . .unless there is another one somewhere. It's a State water heater, gas, I haven't lit the pilot light yet because I'm not certain it has water in it. I rocked it a little and it seems far too light to be full of water.

The reason I mention running water at the faucets is, it's likely that the water was turned off at the main and the water drained down if the house has been empty during winter months and the heat turned off or way down. So I would check the main valve too. Last edited by vafatboy; 02-27-2010 at 10:28 AM. |

Also if you are running a facet in another room and the heater is on one pipe should be almost hot to the touch.

You gotta thump it like a melon to see if it is ripe/ready to use.

Let that faucet run for awhile too. Not a bad idea to open all the faucets for a few minutes.

If you're gonna let it run, take the screens/aerators off. Chances are if it's been sitting, there's stuff in the lines it's easier to let out now than clean out of the screens when they start sprayin' funny.

and the answer is??
also...didnt see this....there is a flush drain at bottom of the heater you can open up...might be a good idea to flush the system out, just hook up a hose to the drain and open up the valve, let run till the water is clear.

I just installed a new water heater at my mom's house. It was a hassle but I saved her some money. I think I'll wash my bike now and go for a nice ride tomorrow.
