I'm NOT trying to take this to R&P but I have a bipartisan observation: a message to anyone who says "there's no point in voting because they're ALL the SAME and it doesn't matter who wins"
Pay attention, because this is a prime example of why it DOES matter who has the reigns at the moment. Regardless which side you support, Supreme Court appointments *matter*.

True because many of the justices are quite old. But as for replacing this particular jurist, the current prez has already said he will uphold his constitutional obligation (har, har, har) by nominating a replacement (cough . . . Eric Holder . . . cough) that he expects the Senate to confirm.

Holder is a heart stopping nightmare with hair on it. The man has no respect for the constitution. The Senate will never confirm him.

It's the obligation of the President to nominate a new Supreme Court justice, regardless of where he is in his last term as President.

It's the obligation of the Senate to either OK or turn down the nomination. All that's needed is a simple majority vote to do so.

I agree: Holder won't get the nomination because the Senate will turn him down.

There have been many instances of 'lame duck' Presidents nominating Supreme Court justices.

Not all the nominees were successfully placed.

It's way to early to speculate on whom Mr. Obama will nominate to fill the vacancy in the Supreme Court.
