Question....
Since most of you know, I'm gonna be out of town for a while. My question is, what is the procedure for packing and taking my pistol with me on American Airlines?

Randy, go to the airlines website and PRINT the instructions for checking/transporting the gun, follow them precisely and TAKE THE PRINTED instructions with you. The people at the counter will have no idea what you are talking about, freak out when you mention you have a pistol, and prolly call security. If you show them the paper from AA that says that indeed you can do this legally, they will calm down and you will be accomodated.
Go TCU! Bob

Ouch Bob... I wasn't gonna go quite that far with it -- I just thought it was a bit ironic. |

I never worked the ticket counter. It's been a long time since I traveled with a weapon. With the TSA and the Company involved, I don't want to get hung up. First time in 30 years I have had a full fare ticket.

Yeah, I thought it ironic as hell! At least they've changed one significant thing for the better: Randy, you'll recall seeing this, up until relatively recently they would attach a special bright orange tag to your bag that said "FIREARMS" in 2" letters! Boy if that didn't make you feel secure!!
The advice about the print-out is right on. If you are a Tx CHL holder, Florida has full reciprocity, BTW. (you knew this, I'd bet) EDIT, link added:Useful site

Carry it in your hand as you board. That way they'll know you're honest, and not trying to hide anything.

Or, you can make an end run around the BS and UPS or FedEx it to yourself in FL the day you leave TX.
