Long story short, there's a special tool required to get the lower cap off the upper slider. I don't have it. No big deal I say to myself, I'll just change the fluid (since I knew I'd lost a bunch). It's a messy job since there are no drain plugs, but that's not a big deal either. I did both sides, that way I could insure that both legs had the same weight fluid, and the same volume. Got the tubes back in the trees, put the fender back on, went to put the wheel back on and.... The axle won't seat. The inverteds use a flush axle that goes through the left leg, then threads into the right. The spacers are in the right spots, but the axle is a good 1/2" out farther than it should be when it stops turning. I tried threading the axle without the wheel in place, and it's the same thing. A hundred degrees today, gonna be a hundred again tomorrow. What the hell did I miss?

At this point, it would be good to mention to our audience that it is advisable to both take pics w/ a digital camera during disassembly and lay the parts out in the order and position of disassembly if you don't have a manual for the custom item in question.
