not a ride report .....
last weekend we left for a week's vacation at a beach resort in Freeport, Bahamas. Drove down to Palm Beach to get on the overnight cruise ship. Got there early and I had to go to the restroom so we went to the HD shop since I knew they had coffee and clean toilets. While I was busy, my wife, who has never shown any real interest in motorcycles, saw a 2008 anniversary (105 th) XL 1200-C, copper-top paint scheme, with only 4600 miles, numbered 2366/3200 and decided she wanted to learn to ride. Believe me, I tried to talk her out of it. I think I will increase my life insurance on her. So we added engine guards and windshield, paid the man, and told him we would be back in a week and I would ride it back to Raleigh. Since I did not have my gear with me we had to buy gloves, jacket, and toy helmet since NC is a helmet state. Fckin' toy helmet was $45.
We went to the cruise ship, had a nice dinner and show, and arrived in Freeport Sunday morning. Checked in, nice place, and walked into a real warm Caribbean ocean. I was all set to spend the week here and do some homework I had to do. Monday evening I was in the water, came out, rinsed off under the shower on the beach, took 2 steps, and slipped on the wet sand. People around me all heard the tendon SNAP. I was down on the ground screaming in pain. I learned that if I did not try to move the right leg there was no pain. 2 guys lifted me up and I was able to limp gingerly back to my room, fortunately on the ground floor because my wife doesn't like stairs. I thought I could tough it out but they all insisted I go to the hospital. Your basic public hospital with lots of people in the ER waiting room. They X-rayed my knee and no broken bones but palpation clearly demonstrated the quadriceps tendon had ripped off from the patella. They put on a half cast and gave me crutches and I stayed in the admitting ward overnight till the orthopedic resident saw me in the morning. They could do the surgery but decided recuperation would be better back home. Left the Bahamas on Thursday instead of Saturday, rented a U-Haul trailer for the Sportster in Palm Beach and my wife drove the 14 hours home to Raleigh. Have a doctor appt. Monday morning. I'm guessing there will be surgery Tuesday or Wednesday to sew things back together. It could be up to 6 months before I trust my leg to go riding again. If the 700 lb Dyna starts tilting to the right when I stop I don't know if I will be able to stop it. The hardest part of this leg cast is getting on and off a toilet. My wife has to help me put on underwear and socks. My unemployed son will be my personal chauffeur for at least 3 months so I can still go to my job which involves sitting in a chair for 11 hours a night. 3 motorsickels in the garage and I can't ride any of them. I will start them up once a week for months so the gas doesn't gum up. I'll have plenty-o-time to annoy people here.

Dang, at least it wasn't a jellyfish up the back end while swimming.
Don't know which would be worse. Heal up quickly.

Sucks about your knee, but good on your wife for wanting to learn to ride. Don't let that flame go out. Get her enrolled in an MSF course right away.
Get yourself in shape for ES2014
