The "Engine Guards" are probably a little bent, I'd think.
Do they still have a cattle /cow catcher? I am so far in the out beyond I don't see trains much any more.

It still makes my butt pucker. The worst feeling I had was watching some idiot run the crossing knowing I couldn't stop. I really don't miss running that engine.
Remember, the train wins in a tie. We were taught NOT to apply emergency brakes if we could see a tanker truck. The theory was that we would pass through the impact area, avoiding any fire and then pull the plug. The truck driver was ready on his own. Thank God I didn't kill anyone, and you too. PM me if you need to talk, sometimes it helps. It's almost worth it to get hug from T. Not really, sorry T.

Glad you are OK. Believe your reaction was quite normal. Hell as old and slow as I am, I still might have run you over.

All is well have heard from the folks investigating that they agree we did all we could and should of. The hauling ass to protect my life they can't say anything about and all agree they would have to. Never got a close look at the front of the train, the tanker was pretty much wrapped around it. Sure the grab irons were bent up, they do still have cow catchers on them, imagine it was pretty bent up too.

As far as blowing through the tanker without plugging it, I thought about that and at track speed that would probably be the thing to do but we were just leaving the yard, fastest I ever saw on the speedo was 21 MPH. Don't think that would have been fast enough to carry is through and clear, not sure.
