Replacing jackshaft/shift shaft seal
So I started pulling apart my primary to replace this leaking seal that's been aggravating me. When I got to the clutch basket I just popped the c-clip without loosing the jam nut and adjuster. When I went to grab the pushrod it slid in further. Do I need to be concerned about this? Ie go in from the other side where the clutch cable goes in and fish the pushrod out?

I don't think you need to worry. When you put the adjuster back in it pushes the rod in so it pushes against the ball and ramp assembly on the other side. It can't go in too far unless you remove the transmission cover. Even then, you just poke it out on either side.
Unless I misunderstood your question.

It seems that it wouldn't go any further than the disc / ball ramp thing on the other end. If you backed off the cable adjustment, it should have excess travel now.
Maybe "adjust" the cable and see if it pokes back out?

Does pulling the clutch at this juncture allow it to overtravel, thus allowing the balls to drop out of the ramp and into the the cover? Why do I remember that?

I didn't adjust the clutch cable any (yet) but I have squeezed the lever to see if I could get the rod to push back through.
I'll keep going down this path and hope it lines back up as I really don't want to have to pull the exhaust in order to get the clutch cable cover off.

I don't think the balls can fall out until you remove the circlip ring holding the two plates together on that side. RTM?

The balls can get out of place, but it's unlikely. You'll be fine, Ben

I hate it when my balls get out of place.

Just my luck... I ordered a gasket kit and the only gasket this kit doesn't have is the seal for the shifter shaft. Arrrggghh! Now I wait another 5-7 business days for that to ship while my bike has parts all over the shop.

They might, but I realized I needed this Sunday evening. Knowing that all bike shops are closed Sunday and Monday, and the weatherman says we're got wet stuff all week I went ahead and ordered 2 online for about the same price as I could score one locally.
