so here I am in Marlinton, WBGV. Never heard of it , have ya? Wednesday night I got a call from my brother telling me that our cousin Ralphie was in the hospital. My parents had 4 kids in 5 years and my dad's sister had 3 kids in 5 years. Between us 7 cousins there is only a 9 year spread so we all pretty much grew up together. Ralphie has always been overweight. He ate peanut butter with a spoon. He has had 2 beautiful wives because he is a funny guy. Ralphie was horribly short of breath recently. A cardiologist friend told him to come in for a check up. Then booked him into the hospital the next day. He had 5 stents placed in his coronary arteries. The first 4 were good. The 5th one was in a vessel with thin walls and it blew open. They rushed him to the OR for emergency bypass surgery. While on the table his heart stopped. They got it going again but are worried about the down time to his brain. The hypoxia could damage things. They put him into a coma and reduced his temp to 94 hoping to save mental acuity. They were going to slowly bring him out of it on Thursday.
Thursday morning about 9 guys from the local SCRC and I left for a scenic tour of VA and WBGV. Thursday night I got a call from my brother saying Ralphie had died before they could bring him out. He is the first of us 7 to go. He was 62. My bro in Santa Fe and sister in Seattle are flying back to Ft. Wayne Saturday and the funeral is Sunday. I couldn't make it till after the funeral so I'm not going. His mother is 91. On New Year's day she fell and broke her leg. Or her leg broke and she fell. She has been in rehab nursing home since then and just came home a few days ago. She is hobbling around with a walker. It's too late to pray for him but thanx for listening.

You get the prayers for all involved. That's just the way it is.
The little town I grew up in was full of cousins and I have lost touch with most of them over the years. I am reminded of this almost on a daily basis as I work on the genealogy of my family and have reconnected with several. I think I will keep that up.
