Cleaning leather

What will take glue off leather without damaging the leather? The patches I took off were glued on besides being sewn on. Now they're a sticky mess. Will just a regular leather cleaner work? Or would something like Goo-Gone discolor the leather?

whatever chemical ya use, try it somewhere not in the open to see if it discolors...like under the collar.

I would not think GOO-Gone, would cause discoloration. It is a citrus based cleaner and it really good with adhesive residue. Like mentioned above, I would try it in a spot not likely to be seen. I would also follow it up with a leather conditioner to moisturize it.

You might also try "saddle soap". We used to use that all the time to clean and protect our expensive boots.

If it's gummy, just keep rubbing it like snot till it
balls up. Then flick it

When I google it says to use an acetone based nail polish remover, but to test it first on an inconspicuous place. I'm a little surprised but lots of websites said the same thing. . .

Hmmm... I would have never suspected acetone. I would have thought it would damage the leather. I know I have some of that at home. I was gonna have to buy Goo-Gone.

Goo Be Gone works. I've used it on my flight leather. No discoloration. WD-40 can work too.

I would stick with the Goo Be Gone.
The active ingredient in WD-40 is kerosene.

My guy uses the cement they glue soles on shoes with, and wants to be really sure I like the positioning of the patch before he positions it with that stuff prior to sewing...
