Not cratered, but it was on it's way. Front intake lifter roller, intermittent lock up. no scoring on the lifter roller or cam lobe. You could roll the wheel with your thumb and it would stick, then a little wiggle and it would release for another rotation or two and lock up again. It probably was less than a couple miles from grenading in the cam chest.

Trying to bleed down the replacements and adjust them out.... not there yet.


Oh, and Ricky.. You get to buy us dinner for the on-line diagnosis cuz you didn't tell us in time.

Sounds like you're spending s few dollars on engine parts... I'll spring for your burger to get you some relief.
Grab a telescoping magnet and scour the can chest for itty bitty bearing bits and pull the pump apart.

The stock lifters are notorious for roller fails.
I can't believe the cam isn't scored.
I really can't believe that you didn't swap 'em during your previous cam install (wagging finger gif) .

What brand of lifters are you going back with? I used the Woods Directionals, but "anything but stock" seems to be the popular choice.

I replaced them at 22k when the Andrews 57 was installed. Unfortunately however, I put new "C" lifters back in as I was in a hurry to leave on the west coast loop in 2013. That was 25k ago. I knew they were a ticking bomb, and they were intended to be replaced when I got around to bumping the compression, new pistons, 58mm TB and such.. But, alas, it still hasn't happened.

The lifter did NOT grenade. It's still intact, but the roller does bind occasionally. I think we dodged a bullet in that it gave us a little warning and I immediately pulled over and shut it down. Two more miles down the road and I could have been looking at a complete tear down, not just a lifter swap.

Nobody was open today that has any in stock. Don't have much hope in tomorrow either as it Memorial Day. Guess I'll just order some in an swap them as I can.

Are you convinced that you found the "smoking gun"?
Did you pull the cam chest or just the lifters?
I would want to inspect the inner bearings, etc, but I don't know what all y'all took apart...

Cam lobes were perfect at the offending lifter. Lifter roller bearing shot, but intact. But anything is possible.
