I don't usually chime in on the tech threads -- for very good reasons...

But, in this case it seems clear. If you like the way it runs and noise is your issue, you might go this route...

You can get 'em online for around $.14 a pair if you buy in 50+ pair.

Just sayin'...

An inherent issue with mufflers that are slashed UP is that they collect rain water and encourage rust.

Russ, if I'm not mistaken. D&D offers an even quieter baffle unit. You might check into that. That would be way cheaper than a new system and you keep the performance.

I wear custom-fitted earplugs every time I get on the bike. I won't ride without them.

I'm considering that as well.

That would be the concentric baffle. I initially ordered that baffle with my pipe, and was quite happy with the sound. Unfortunately, that baffle was only intended to be used on a Stage 1 96" engine, not a 103. D&D, after 10,000 miles with that baffle, sent me the one I have now free of charge.

Have they adapted the concentric to accommodate the 103 since then?

Nope. The concentric is too restrictive for a 103. It caused a ton of heat buildup, and ended up discoloring the crap out of the pipe. And Lord the bike runs better with the new baffle.

Honestly, I think I'm just going stir crazy. I gotta get out and ride soon.

I cruised mine today at 70 to 80 and it wasn't bad. I think that some handlebar mounted speakers and an amp are in order. I really want to be able to listen to my i-POD.

I still need to get my muffler swapped out for the non-concentric baffle. I hate the sound of the concentric baffle and wasn't offended by the wrapped baffle.

It don't rain in my garage.

When I ride in the rain, I'm moving forward, thusly the rain can't collect.

When parked in the rain, I'll be riding again soon.

So the decision's been made, the Fatcat is officially for sale.

Now I've got to make up my mind on the replacement. Here's the contenders so far....

- Bub Stealth TDX. It's a complete system from the exhaust ports to the tips. The headpipe is stepped, the mufflers are EPA-stamped. It's a dual setup with a crossover that mimics the factory setup. Bub's website is down, so I have no clue what the system's made of or what the warranty is.

- Fuelmoto 2:1:2 ceramic coated headpipe with Bub Stealth mufflers. Pricy, especially considering I'd have to get my stock heat shields ceramic coated black, but the Fuelmoto pipe is a work of art. It's not stepped, but the numbers I've seen out of it are pretty amazing. It's a stainless steel pipe with a lifetime warranty. With the factory heat shields and the EPA-stamped mufflers, I'd never have to worry about being hassled at a checkpoint.

I'd be all over the Fatshotz if they were available in black.

Anything else I should look at?

And if you go on multi-day trips and stay in motels or camp? The water sits there all night.
