You know, my ancient RK has *only* a cam swap. Somehow that was OK. But Rosie just won't be satisfied. If I had the green, she'd have a 124. The reason I tore into the trans just before ES has nothing to do with upgrades. The bike exhibited a troubling symptom last week that made me worried sick that the MDG bearing or another transmission bearing was trying to seize. Seizing bearings, left untreated, are what's known as "grenades". I was seriously concerned that something was on the verge of catastrophic bearing failure. There was no way I could head out on *any* ride, much less an Epic ride like ES with that unresolved. I've had my hands on and in every part of this bike in various fits of maintenance, repairs, upgrades EXCEPT for two systems: I haven't done ANYthing to the transmission or the ABS. This symptom just screamed trans bearing issue, so, in the words of Ernest Robinson: "Mistah, I gots ta know". THAT's why I'm doing this. The still-troubling part is that though I've found worn bearings and replaced them, I haven't found the *obvious cause*. The symptom may return...At least I will know what it ISN'T.
