Bug out bag?

I've been sort of half-assed getting stuff together for one of these. Living in the DC Metro area, we have a higher than average chance of there being some sort of civil unrest, and it just never hurts to be prepared for stuff.

I've got a good-sized Oakley backpack to store everything in, but I'm considering picking up something with the MOLLE system for flexibility.

What I've got:

SOG multi-tool
Gerber LMF II
Solar/hand-crank radio with phone charger & light
Lensatic compass
Sig P226 w/100 rounds
Remington 870 Police Magnum w/50 rounds
Dry socks
Clean underbritches


What I think I need:

50' paracord
A quality 1st aid kit
Some way of purifying water
At least 2 liters of water
Lighters, and flint and steel
A quality LED flashlight
3 or 4 MREs
A small tarp or space blanket

Help me with what I'm missing. I'm not looking to live out of the thing forever, I just want something that'll get me through 72 hours.

More ammo, decent number of quality spare mags. (Ammo and the willingnesss to use it can make up for a lot of oversights.)
Not to sound like a complete nutjob, but a couple of gas masks, considering your location.
IMHO, you just need to be able to get to safety.
Gas tank in the truck should always be pretty full.

BTW, I see no mention of ammo selection for the shotgun. Brenneke slugs will penetrate both doors of a domestic automobile and 7" of white pine on the other side.

I chose the 226 since they're issued to local, state, and federal LEOs around here, so if the S really hits the F, "found" ammo and magazines shouldn't be an issue. I've got 8 already, and a nice mix of FMJ and Hydrashoks. The 870 has 5 slugs on the stock, and I've got quite a bit of 00 as well.

Gas mask is (sadly) probably a good idea.
