Thinking of a new humidor

One thing I've found with storing unwrapped up top (I don't do it, but a guy at work I trade a lot with does, so I get to see the results individually from sticks I get from him) is that the cedar soaks up all those lovely oils from the wrappers. I had a stain that was literally twice as wide as the cigar from one that was directly in contact with the tray. Since cellophane is porous, I just leave it on. Whatever breathing in or out the cigar is gonna do, it still does with the cellophane on, just slower. And the oils seem to stay put. Just my $.02.

Interesting. I've had no issue with staining but I'll keep an eye out for it.

The staining doesn't bother me. Losing the oils from the wrapper does.

1. Me: 2-3 a week if I'm lucky

2. They need to age and stabilize. They're not like cigarettes at all. Most cigars are rolled pretty tight. It takes a long time for the humidity level to even out throughout the entire cigar. As they age at the proper humidity level, the flavors tend to meld and sometimes mellow.

One a day, usually. If the temp and humidity are right, should be no mold and no beetles.

Apart from aging, Camacho just discontinued my absolute favorite cigar, so I bought all I could afford and need a place to put them, along with the ones they discounted the crap out of when they changed packaging. I can afford to smoke them more often that way. That big humidor is (apart from a few strays) all Camacho.

You see it. Blue/green/black bad. White puffy, OK if it hasn't gotten to the filler (check the foot), wipe off, segregate and smoke ASAP. Had to do that with some from south of Miami.

yeah, you see it. Then you have to clean, sand, dry and re-season your humidor. Not the best way to spend a weekend

Keep the temp and the humidity below 72 and you shouldn't have a problem.
