gassbag's son

I just noticed a post in a "what you're doing for Thanksgiving" thread, gasbag mentioned that his oldest son (29) passed away in August. I had not seen that before.

So, to gasbag and his family. My deepest sorrow. Please know that I will say a prayer tonight for your son. May he rest in the arms of the Lord forever. It's beyond our knowledge why someone so young had to leave you, trust that our eternal resting place will answer that someday.

Enjoy the holiday as best you can and know you have many friends here who care about you and your family. God Bless.

A parent should never have to bear the sorrow of the death of their child.

Thanks folks, I appreciate the kind words.

I probably shouldn't have mentioned it, but I was responding to the thread and realized Tom won't be with us and it just sort of dribbled out of me. I certainly wasn't trolling for sympathy or trying to be a downer. It is just that once in a while something strikes a nerve and brings it back. I will never forget that phone call we got at 1am.

I apologize for airing a family thing. I rarely do that, especially in a forum. It is just the first holiday that there will be an empty place at the table.

I have been here only about 3 weeks but I have found the nicest bunch of people, albeit a bit crazy, and I really enjoy coming in here and reading posts and occasionally contributing. You are good people.

Everyone have a great Thanksgiving and a wonderful Christmas. Give every member of your family 12 hugs every day, never stop giving hugs.
"I love you's" don't hurt either.

Never apologize for sharing your feelings. I think everyone here is glad you felt you can share and it probably helps you too.
the loss of a child is never something a parent should have to go through.
May wish for you is that you can remember the good time and that you and you family can find a little joy in the holidays.

We are family here and it's okay to share your hurts, as well as your joys. My children are the most precious people in the world to me and I just cannot even imagine losing one. My heart goes out to you and yours. The first everything is always the hardest. Thoughts and prayers for you all.

No need to apologize. You are among friends and in an odd way (fitting for here) family.

A prayer and my deepest sympathies.
