I have never heard to lower air. I have heard low air makes them wear out. I keep mine at 38, let it leak to 35.

More HD pricing drama...

My bike is on the lift in the garage right now because I removed the wheels hoping to save some money on the tire mount. I call up RRHD and ask them how much if I bring in just my wheels. He says $60 should do it... (plus tubes). I stop by to drop off the wheels at lunch and he says that he forgot I had my own tires. Because how they are narrow due to the decal wrapped around the tire they are hard to mount. He says hourly labor of $65 x 2 plus shop supplies and the tubes. $150 plus and I removed the wheels.

I loaded my stuff up and went to the h0nda store.

So the HD shop is telling you that it will take their tech one hour to mount and balance one tire on one wheel that is already removed from your motorcycle.

Are they retards, three fingered monkeys, or techs?

He says that is what to expect. Could take less time, could take more depending on how difficult the tire is after being "banded" (decal wrapped around the tire). But definitely no more than three hours total.

I would not have a problem paying a bit more to have HD do it but damn...

I don't know man... it really sounds like they don't want to mess with it so they price themselves out of the market. Purposefully.

And there's your answer. If they didn't sell it, they don't want to install it.

F'em. I'd spend several hundred dollars on a tire machine before I'd pay those crooks $150 to mount and balance two tires on wheels that had been taken off the motorcycle. You'd have something you could use the next time after you're done. Personally, I'd take it to the H0nda shop this time.

The HD dealer near my work mounts and balances for $25/tire wheels already removed.

local HD here wont do it for any price if they dont sell you the tire. flat refuse, but we'll sell you a tire for $XXX.XX and install it for xx.xx. nevermind my buddy has a tire machine.... now I do to. I am mounting it to a bracket my buddy is building so I can stick it in my receiver hitch and use it that way, when I am done I simply take it off receiver and put back in my storage. Best I can do for now. It's not the greatest solution, but it works.

Done at H0nda shop. $25 a tire, and two tubes $80.xx out the door. Tubes would have been $40 plus tax alone at the HD store.

Excellent, Phil. They were probably happy to do it for you too.

Don't forget you should "break in" those new tires before taking corners hard.

Local dealer here charges $40.00 to mount and balance a tire, plus the weights used. Enough already!

Last weekend I bought -
Harbor Freight manual tire changer with bead breaker (I modified it)
Harbor Freight motorcycle wheel adapter (I modified so it won't scratch rims)
No-Mar static wheel balancer (nice)
Rim savers and a few tire spoons.
1 large 1/2" plastic cutting board (for modifications)
8 - 1/4" flat-headed bolts with nuts

This is going to work pretty slick, and will pay me back after 4 tires. And, the best part is....no waiting!

I have consdiered doing my own tires. Just never got that far. It is a pain to bring them in, go back get them. Local charges $25, if you buy the tire from them. So I haven't had a lot of incentive. But it has crossed my mind.

Did it once with help, with just a big vice grip and the hand tools.

Dealers can be a pain about tires.

I used to do all my tires but it was a lot of work with only tire tools.
I have considered getting a tire changer as per Thorn (smart move man).

The last few tires, I've gone to the local Indy but he is not cheap.

Oh yeah, almost 10,000 on the oem's on the springer.
