Chqnging ramps
Would I get much benefit from just changing the ramps on 01? its got 21. Is it 14?? in the 07s and newer. Would that give me easier pull?
Gonna have clutch release cover off, and don't feel like openning it again. |

Yep.
Clutch adjustment frequency will increase, though, because it won't disengage as far.

I noticed some difference and yes, its worth it.
Just follow the directions in the service manual including coating the ball bearings with grease so they stay in place while you're putting everything back together.

I've had my balls out before. I like the idea of greasing them. |

Mike save your money. New ramps sucks. If you want a easy pull, go hydraulic. Sure ramps may help but not like hydraulic. After I changed over the a wet system I will never have a cable system. It is expensive but worth every penny. Trust me on this one.

Good one mike. Just remember balls are hard to pull.

If it is the difference between my 02 and 08, I'd make the change while you have it apart. The 08 pulls much nicer. So far, clutch adjustments haven't been an issue for either bike.

I do like the easy pull. Do you notice your 08, not pulling in all the way? My 07 doesn't. I treid the less gap at the lever, and helped for a little while.

Mine seems to work great. If I keep this 02 I'll consider changing it up.

This is way cheaper than the 14° ramps, way way cheaper than a hydraulic clutch, and just as effective:

I ordered the new ramps. Plus new cables.

With the new ramps, adjusting your clutch to 1/2 turn out (the minimum) will give you full disengagement for right at the 5k mikes between services.
Does me, anyway. If I go more than 1/2 turn out, it'll start dragging before time to open it up again to change fluids.

I usually go 3/4, but I think I have been going 1/2 on new bike just to see if I could tell difference. I think I wrote it in my log.
How can you tell its dragging? I have wondered if adjusting every 5k is overkill. I do it, but I have wondered. I think the SS cable I orded has teflon lining, so should be nice improvement. Yes I am big nancy boy, and can't pull my little clutch in. |
