ABS or Fiberglass
They did some spaying in the shop and the bike got some overspray. Contemplating just having it buffed out or painting.
Just took all the tins, bags, tourpak and fairing off the bike. The fairing is ABS, but I'm not sure about the pak and bags. When I installed the premium hinges and enlarged the hole for the screws I remember getting what looked like dust from fiberglass. The interior of the pak and bags are light grey. Need to repair some nicks and a crack at the front tourpak hinge. Fiberglass or ABS? 2002 Electra Glide. If I paint I'll likely do this. Last edited by vafatboy; 01-11-2015 at 07:41 PM. |

I think they went to all ABS on the 2009 models. Not sure about earlier. I seem to recall my 2007 had ABS bags and a fiberglass tour pak

My 2005 Ultra was ALL ABS, fairing, lowers, tourpak, side covers and saddlebags.
If you drilled it and got dust, I'd say it was fiberglass. The ABS when drilled will leave slivers and chunks, not much dust.

IIRC, the black is ABS, the gray fiberglass.
My '05 has ABS bags, fiberglass TourPakˇ®. Prices higher in Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico.

Painting was not within budget.
So, sanded every nook and cranny with 3000 grit. Machine buffing compound and then machine swirl remover. Some deeper scratches needed 1500 grit, then 2000, then 3000. Took about 8 hours. I helped the guy that did the spraying that produced the overspray. Learned a lot. Most important is using professional compounds and polishes. In this case they were 3M. Still need to wash, wax and put it all back together. |
