I've been doing all three with each change, but while the engine oil is very dirty and the primary is fairly dirty, the trans oil comes out as clean as it went in. I may stretch that out a little. I'm betting the primary would be cleaner if I could get everything to stop leaking.

Still, if it's the first 5K miles, I'd do all of them now and then start following the recommended intervals. I used to be a 3K, now I'm at least a 5K. Especially with the switch to synthetic.

I've seen and read different opinions...

I've got Amsoil 20 50 V twin oil.

Should I use something different for the tranny????? ...and why.

I think the dealer used Syn3 in all 3 for the 1000.

The MoCo says that you can, but I ain't runnin' motor oil in a transmission. Some guys have had some problems doing so.

I use Bel-Ray Gear Saver. Smoother.

I've used Mobil 1 75W90 gear lube..but still prefer the Bel-Ray..85W140.

I change everything at 5k, aint that expensive to do the primary and tranny along with the crank case. I agree with Mega, My tranny oil never looks like it's been used. Mobil-1 syn 20-50 in the crank case, Mobile-1 syn ATF in the primary, and Valvoline Durablend syn 85-140 in the tranny, nice and quiet and better than sawdust.

Seems like alot of dealers casrry belray, since the 07s came out, maybe to quite them. Belray has been around along time, high end oil. I see it lots of places. I think it was/is big for raciong sleds too.

I ran syn 3 in all 3 holes for about 40k on FLHR. Went to redline to help identify the leaks. Have not noticed any difference in performance. But gear lube seemed like a better idea.

On 07, I switched to redline around 1k, again noticed no difference.

Maybe I am not as sensitive as some of you.
