On my Sportster Sport I replaced the stock tires with a set of Bridgestone BT 45. They are a "dual compound" tire with a harder center for highway use and softer sides for the twisties.

Excellent tires and made the Sporty handle much, much better.

While you are at it upgrade your brake pads to Lyndall's. It'll be a new & improved bike!

I'm with Mikey regarding the lighter bike thing. I'm on my 3'rd Metz 880 on the rear and 2'nd on the front. NO complaints, trouble or disatisfaction, and they offer a vast improvement over 402's, especially in the rain.

YMMV.

This is as bad as an oil thread...

Are the Brazillian Metz's working OK on the light bikes?
I'm not doubting the design or quality of the German ones, but my experience w/ Brazillian QC on one pair, plus all the other wonderful stories from the heavy bike riders like myself about incorrect marking/sizing and wear issues makes me distrust them across the board.
Maybe they're making the little tires in a different village, or something.

Dave, 'FOR ME', yes they have been working GREAT !!
I've been running the Metz 880 for 8 years, NO PROBLEMS and love the Handling on my bike. I know that for some of the larger bikes there has been some sizing and handlilng issues with the Metz .. but for my bike, I have not had ANY issues with these tires in the 8 years that I've been running them.

Yeah, I don't know Dave .. I've followed that over the past few years, and for my little bike, there's never been a 'size' or 'wear' issue' ....

IIRC about 13K on the previous front, over 2 seasons, 9K on the current front (70% on the slab) put it on mid-season last year. Previous rear, about 9K coulda gone another 1K but I didn't wanna take it to TOTM the way it looked treadwise, 'cuz of twisties and possible rain.

The main improvement I notice over the stock Dunlops is stickier cornering and less (like none) tracking of rain grooves, tar snakes linear stuff in the pavement.

I don't mind less mileage from a tire if I get improved performance.
