Anyone from East Texas/Dallas area going to ES

Last month I took out of Big D and did 75/69 and turn at Atoka to 43 to 2 to Talihina to 1 and did the Winding Stair then North/ Fun route . Then work your way up to E.S Queen Wilhelmina is a good stop.

Sounds like Ricky and Dan are hammering out a "plan". Right now it still sounds like we're all leaving on Saturday and spending a night on the road, getting to ES on Sunday.

I'll let the dust settle a little bit and try to get the plan posted here...

What is at the Queen Wilhelmina? I've never actually been there. Passed it but never stopped.

For some reason my lousy memory had placed this in Oklahoma but it's actually in Arkansas on the Eastern stretch of the Talimena parkway.

Summary: State park at the top of a small mountain; a hotel (queen Wilhemina Lodge); restaurant, scenic mountaintop views, campground, parking, gift shop. That's about it.

There are no other attractions/stores/businesses/rides etc at the park as far as I know but haven't been there in years.
(side note: there are NO stores or gas anywhere on the Byway)
The hotel was built in the late 1800s. abandoned in early 1900s, rebuilt in the 1960s, burned down in the '70s, rebuilt in '75, rebuilt again in 2015.
I was there in '79 or so and there was a miniature train going all around the property. I'm curious if they might ever bring that back.

Looks like I'll still be Sunday morning headed up to ES. Hoping to be on the road between 10-12 and getting there between 4-6.

I talked with Dan yesterday and it looks like we're putting together a plan*
Essentially this: leaving early Sat morning, Alan and Dan will meet (somewhere) and head East (or North?); HiTekRednek (Randall) and I will meet up (somewhere) and we will go North (or Northwest?), then the two of us will meet with the two of them (somewhere) and then go up yonder, likely incorporating at least half of the TSB, details after that begin to get somewhat sketchy.

Ricky and I are meeting up ato 0900 Saturday at Ore City Donuts, Ore City, TX and heading northish from there.

I didn't get the rest of the plan but I'm pretty sure we're still eventually headed for ES...
