One of mu buddies has a ZX14 Ninja.

A $200 chip to remove the factory (and US LAW) out-of-the-box top speed of 186, and he has a 230mph motorcycle.

I was there when he started looking, and I asked the salesman if they came with a stick and a spoon.

This last summer I was at the local drag strip watching the runs. There were two guys there on stock Busa's and I was assuming seasoned riders. They were each running right close to the same speed and times in the quarter mile. I was a little disapointed that they couldn't crack the 150mph, every run was 149mph.

Stock bikes, stock tires (I looked), no wheelie bars.

QUICK!

Chris

Man that is quick in the quarter to hit 149. I knew they were quick but didn't know they were that quick.

did not have the guts to go over 100 with the busa alls i know is there was still plenty of throttle left and i was not going to try anything . just too dam scared or common sense was kickin in beleive me i thought i could handle it thats what scard me most. i mean i wasnt really scared it was more like i respected the machine. it definatly keeps you on your toes like i said before if i were to get one (which i doubt) its something ill have to relearn to ride as it demands more rider input . just tooling around town it was fine but once the road opened up it became a blurr real fast. the breaks are great you step on them or pull the lever in your actually stopping not waiting. the bike is scarey powerful.i could never imagine trying to drag race one of these beasts. i bet with a lot of practice and patience i could but way too much bike for me.

OH yea one other thing it is definatly a babe magnet oh yea thats for sure.
What about those sport touring bikes I mentioned. They would fuflill the need for speed, be a little more comfortable and you could actually take a trip on them without having someone else carry your luggage.

I looked at that new Kawa at my local dealer when it came in but bought the NT as a second scoot. Now when my ass hurts riding that cool looking NT more than 45 minutes I think I should have bought the Kawa or a FJR as a fun second scoot, I still might. Interested to hear your thoughts after you ride the Kawa. Side by side it is alot bigger than the yami FJR.

George,

Good report and thanks. I've had my eye on one of those for a while and your observations illustrate my BIG concerns -- ie: too damn powerful, esp. for the street. I still like them and may end up with one - however, I'm looking at other bikes too. Test drove a Speed Triple and I'll be visiting the Ducati dealership to try the 95 and 130 HP Monsters. Also thought about a used 600 something. Decisions, decisions...

I only know I won't rebuild the HD again until it needs it and besides - doing that puts one about 1/2 to a good sportbike, so wtf...

Oh, you must mean this V-Rod?

Geez, 500hp on a bike?

George,

Sport bikes in general are pretty incredible and busas especially so, IMO. I do worry some about too much power + my squidly azz = bad ju-ju. Still...

Also looking at the Ducatis. I've always liked them. The 2-valve Monster, S2R 1000 has 95 HP and weighs about 400 lbs. It's the "classic" air-cooled Duc and supposedly runs 11.2 in the quarter.

Then there's the Monster S4RS 1000 which has 130 HP and is water-cooled and weighs the same. Power is higher in the rev range across the board - but it appeals to me as a potential "sportbike-spanker."

I'm really like them.

SEDELUXE, if and when you get a high hp bike like the busa, do yourself a favor and have an extended (longer the better) swing arm installed on it. I'm so glad I have already gone through the speed thing...(Psst, I just got a speeding ticket on my RK...lol)

Not a rotary engine.
