shock adjustments

04 Heritage, when two-up loaded heavy I need a little more shock preload. I assume that more preload will raise the ride height, any rule of thumb as to how many turns in adjustment relates to the ride height??

doesnt prelaod tighten the ride, thus making them shorter??
