Works for me. The Cosa Nostra was the shadow goverment for years in Sicily and southern Italy. It was also in many American cities. In many neighborhoods, the Alderman of political rep would be the guy to go see if you wanted a job. he could get you into a union and get you working. You had to vote for his people, but that was it. Of course, if you wanted to run numbers or whatever, he could force a company to hire you as whatever and you mught be a union steward( have that status). Then you could be off on union business collecting for bookmakers or whatever and still be employed so that your parole or probation agent would bust your balls.

It worked in those cities, but was just another "good ol' boys" network. If you playred ball with them, you were safe, because no one that had any brains would bother you, for fear of what your "friends" would do. They were more effective than the PD, just don't cross them. They had thier own book of rules, you knew what to expect.

The 10 'Mafiosi' commandments are:

1. No one can present himself directly to another of our friends. There must be a third person to do it.

6. Appointments must be respected.
7. Wives must be treated with respect.
8. When asked for any information, the answer must be the truth.
9. Money cannot be appropriated if it belongs to others or to other families.
10. People who can't be part of Cosa Nostra are anyone with a close relative in the police, with a two-timing relative in the family, anyone who behaves badly and doesn't hold to moral values.

#2 & #4 leave me out.... I have to look at a women when I'm talking to her.
