Check engine light on after starting??

Never noticed before. My check engine light on 07, comes back on after starting, and stays on for about 8-10 seconds. Turn key on, light comes on, then goes off. I start it, back on then off.

Is this normal???

think it means you have a code stored but no longer causing problems, but I'm not near my manual to say for sure...

Manual sitting here on desk. Iwas hoping someone start there bike and say this normal. Now I got to think.

I think its a stored code but I have a dyna ignition it stay on till you start the bike.

Probably a code stored. If it doesn't clear after 50 cycles..take out your billfold, remove at least $100 and take it to a dealer.

Couldn't find anything in shop manual. Owners manual say comes onfor 4 seconds when ignition is turned on. Other then that see dealer.

I wasn't planning on buying the electrical manual for a little bit. It is under warranty.

Will they check the code for free? Or this normal wear and tear, voided warranty, they all do that kinda thing?

Got to make sure it is good, you guys have me to scared to ride my 98" to ES.

Figured that, but I don't have that kind of paitence. Noticed it yesterday. 7-8 starts on it.

should check it and more than likely fix whatever it is throwing a code free under warranty I imagine

You don't have to actually start it..just cycle it.

is it like my bike 2000, where you can jump the pins and read the code off the dash?

Ya last time I brought it in for warranty work, they told me, that when I put on the air cleaner and mapped it, I must have bent the pints on the ECM. TPS wire was rubbing on fins.

Will it still be in memory if its no longer flashing? Will they just say one of those things?

Damn radio won't stay off either.

actually 07 you can read the codes by entering the correct punches in the blinker switches I believe... but again, not around my manual. B you shouldn't need an electrical manual to read those codes... I have read about it 'somewhere' and I only have the service manual. might have been on a forum I suppose, but I sure think it's in the service manual.

You can go in through the instrument panel I think. My 01 does the pin thing too, put it changed.
